Learning Enrichment
Enriching learning for all of our pupils is at the heart of everything we do at Parkside.
"Pupils’ excellent outcomes are promoted most effectively by senior leaders’ high expectations, supported by staff training."
The Learning Enrichment Department supports the aims and ethos of the school, developing independence and inspiring a life-long love of learning. We recognise that every learner is an individual and with that comes individual needs. It is fundamental that the pupils are taught how to recognise how they learn best and to understand the best strategies and tools to use to achieve their very best and succeed; eventually taking responsibility for their own learning so that they are well-equipped for future learning and life beyond the classroom.
"Another (parent) comments that she (Ms Janssen) strikes a balance of 'achieving good results but doing it in a way that is good for the boys - she knows how boys work'".
Good Schools Guide 2021
At Parkside, we adhere to current legislation that every teacher is a teacher of SEND and as such, the best person to support a pupil’s need in a subject is the subject teacher. Through regular support, training and communication with all staff, the Learning Enrichment Department ensures that teaching staff are well equipped with the knowledge and strategies to get the very best out of every pupil. This ensures a consistent approach across the school, facilitating a well-practised and structured set of strategies, also supported at home.
"Pupils, including those with SEND, develop excellent self-understanding, knowing their strengths and what they need to do to address any individual problems."
Additional short-term group interventions may run alongside the curriculum to support those pupils who may need targeted sessions to cement their learning; for example, in phonics, handwriting or mental arithmetic strategies. In exceptional circumstances, one-to-one support may be provided, but in the majority of cases this is not best practice as we are passionate about creating independent, resilient and confident learners.
